Cutting Down on Fat

Here are some tips for reducing your fat intake as you cook and bake.
- If your recipe calls for you to coat a pan with oil use vegetable oil spray instead. *2 TBSP of oil = 28 fat gram( 240 calories) vs vegetable oil spray - 1 fat gram (10 calories)
- When adding ingredients to prepackaged mixes (e.g. macaroni & cheese, brownies) use low or reduced fat products whenever possible. Examples: fat-free(skim) milk to make pudding, used reduced fat and less margarine to make macaroni and cheese.
- Grill, broil or roast meat and poultry on a rack so fat drips through and is not reabsorbed.
- Cook greens with lean ham or smoked turkey instead of fat back or bacon.
- Frosting adds a lot of calories to cake. Instead top your homemade cakes with powdered sugar, fresh fruit or a puree made from thawed frozen fruit.
