Breakfast

Ask Leah!

We've all heard it time and time again, "breakfast is the most important meal of the day." But how many of us actually take the time to eat breakfast? I don't know about you, but mornings are crazy in our house. From making sure my husband doesn't hit the snooze button one too many times, to feeding the dog, exercising, and getting dressed for work ... it seems like we don't have much time for breakfast. Realistically, few of us have the time to sit down to a traditional breakfast meal except on weekends. What can we eat during the week that will fuel us for the day ahead?

I like to pair a source of carbohydrates for energy with some protein and "good" fat; that way I know I'll feel satisfied for a longer period of time. Here are some ideas for quick and nutritious breakfasts with ingredients you can buy at your local Ingles.

  1. Whole wheat toast and peanut butter + Tropicana orange juice.
  2. Stonyfield Farm vanilla yogurt with almonds and fresh fruit + Lipton Green Tea.
  3. Quaker Quick Oatmeal with Sun•Maid raisins and walnuts or pecans + Laura Lynn Nutrish 1% milk.
  4. Whole wheat bread or tortilla with Borden sharp cheddar cheese sprinkled on it (toast until cheese melts in your toaster oven) + Apple & Eve 100% fruit juice.
