Get the Fluid You Need During Exercise

While you should always be drinking at least 8 cups of water each day it is especially important if you are an athlete. Athletes who aren't properly hydrated before, during, and after exercise run the risk of dehydration.
- 2 hours before exercising drink 2 cups of water
- During exercise drink 4-8 ounces of cool water ever 15-20 minutes that you are exercising
- If you are exercising longer than 1 hour you will need to think about fluids containing carbohydrates and electrolytes to replenish your glycogen stores. Sports drinks like Gatorade will prevent dehydration and improve performance.
- After you have finished exercising drink 16-20 ounces of water for every pound you have lost during exercise. You may want to drink part of this in sports drinks like Gatorade. Adequate fluid intake may make a big difference in your endurance and performance so....DRINK UP!
