Water, Water Everywhere...

Ask Leah!

With all the rain we've had lately, it could be easy to take water for granted. Let's not forget that just last summer we were in the middle of a drought. Our lawns were parched, our lakes were at an all time low and washing cars was discouraged. Water is just as important for our bodies. Did you know...

  1. You need water to digest food and prevent constipation?
  2. Water lubricates your joints, cushions your organs and tissues and keeps the mucous membrane lining of your body healthy?
  3. The average male needs 12 cups of water each day and the average female needs 9 cups?
  4. Individuals most likely to become dehydrated are children and infants, the elderly, sufferers of chronic disease, physically active workers and athletes?

To make sure you are getting enough water...

  1. Carry a bottle of water with you wherever you go. Either fill up your own water bottle with Land-O-Sky NC Certified Spring Water or pick up a Dannon water at your Ingles Supermarket.
  2. Order water with your meals. (This will help save on calories and cash!)
  3. Eat fruits and vegetables that have a high water content. (Examples: watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber, zucchini).
  4. If you don't like the taste of plain water, try Le Nature's flavored water or add a squeeze of lemon, lime or orange to your tap or filtered water.
