Six Tips for Savoring the Holidays and NOT Sabotaging Your Waistline!

Hydrate yourself - Drink plenty of water - at least 8 glasses each day. Since alcohol dehydrates you, drink one glass of water every time you have an alcoholic beverage.
Know when to stop (eating) - Eat until you are satisfied, not until you are stuffed. Did you know it takes about 15 minutes for your brain to realize that your stomach is full? Eat slowly and savor your food.
Fill up on fruits and vegetables - Note: Cherry pie does not count as a serving of fruit! In addition to vitamins and minerals, fruits and vegetables have fiber which fills you up.
Easy does it on the high calorie foods! - Watch those servings of desserts, fried foods, gravies and cheeses which are high in fat and calories. Consider having smaller servings or split a dish with a friend or significant other.
Get plenty of exercise - Searching for the remote underneath your couch doesn't count! Take a 20-30 minute walk each day, play outside with your kids, ride a bike, rake the lawn or walk on a treadmill.
Plan ahead - If you know you are going to have a big lunch or dinner out, make your other meals lighter to balance out your calories for the day.
Give thanks - Remember to take time to appreciate your family and your health and the meaning of the holiday season.
