Tips To Reduce Your Risk of Cancer

Since evidence suggests that about "one-third of the 500,000 cancer deaths that occur in the United States each year are due to dietary factors", the foods you shop for and eat may be more important than you realize! (Source: "The Importance of Nutrition in Cancer Prevention", Prevention and Early Detection. Available at: 1-800-227-2345 or http://www.cancer.org/. Accessed February 19, 2001.) The American Cancer Society offers these tips to reduce your risk of cancer:
EAT LESS FAT - Limit your intake of high fat foods, and meat - especially high fat meats.
EXERCISE - The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends adults get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day most days of the week.
LIMIT ALCOHOL - Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages, if you drink at all.
Eat more plant products - Eat 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Eat foods from other plant sources like breads, cereals, grain products, rice, pasta or beans several times each day.
This is general information only and should not replace advice or instructions given to you by your physician.
