Heart Month

The American Heart Association (800-AHA-USA1) designates this month as "Heart Month" and lists these four basic goals for Americans:
1. FOOD. Have an overall healthy eating pattern which includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, low-fat or non-fat dairy products, fish, legumes, poultry or lean meats.
2. WEIGHT. Make sure your weight is appropriate. Match your calorie intake to your activity level.
3. CHOLESTEROL. Know your cholesterol levels (HDL and LDL). Limit foods that are high in saturated, trans fat and cholesterol.
4. BLOOD PRESSURE. Limit your intake of salt, salty foods and alcohol. Maintain a healthy weight. Emphasize vegetables, fruits and low-fat or nonfat dairy products in your meals.
This is general information only and should not replace advice or instructions given to you by your physician.
