Food & Fitness Build a Healthy Lifestyle

Just as you wouldn't construct a house without the right tools and a strong foundation, you cannot build a healthy lifestyle without incorporating good nutrition habits with a foundation of regular exercise.
The most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that we be "physically active every day". While adults should be getting 30 minutes of exercise and physical activity most every day, children need "at least 60 minutes per day".
Perhaps you are intimidated by the word "exercise"? Being physically active can include mowing the lawn, raking leaves, pushing a stroller, playing with your children and even gardening. You don't have to be a marathon runner or the most coordinated person in your aerobics class. Explore different options:
- yoga to improve your flexibility
- biking, brisk walking and lap swimming work your cardiovascular system
- team sports like basketball at the local "Y" with your buddies or women friends
- learn new dance steps like contra dancing, swing or salsa
This is general information only and should not replace advice or instructions given to you by your physician.
